Chair positions are not voted upon, just filled by volunteers. We need people to fill these positions as many of the programs need to be planned over the summer or early next school year! If you are interested in one of the chair positions below, please contact president@helenkellerpta.org to discuss your interests. Chair positions may be shared and chairpersons may appoint committees to help them fulfill their duties.

Enrichment

Enrichment programs are offered 3 times a year. The enrichment chair identifies and coordinates all after school programs and serves as a liaison between the vendors, parents, and students. This program is currently chaired by Dawn Hood.

Back to School BBQ

Organizes the Keller Back-To-School Family BBQ in September. This event is a favorite of the community and is organized by our PTA presidents, Jamie Burns and Janell Seabrook.

Yearbook

Responsible for collecting candid and professional photos for the Keller yearbook. The Chairperson works with other Yearbook Committee members to design and approve yearbook art and design. Responsible for being the main contact to the publishing company who processes online payment system. Creates promotional flyer for staff and students.

  • Volunteer Needed - Event Photographer

This year we are asking all parents to take pictures of Keller events and email them to yearbooks@helenkellerpta.org. Better yet, Do you have an eye for photography? would you like to use those skills to support your community? Become the PTA event photographer! If you are interested in this role, please contact communications@helenkellerpta.org. This project is currently chaired by Jessicah Dutton.

Popcorn Friday

Pop and bag popcorn at student lunch recesses one Friday each month. A great way to see the kids during the school day. A sure way to become the most popular person on campus! The PTA pays for the cost of the this event. This event is currently chaired by Melanie Cunningham.

International Night

This committee plans and implements an event celebrating the cultures and ancestries of Helen Keller families. This is an amazing event to celebrate the diversity of our school and community and there is always some delicious treats that our presenting family share. One of our highest attended events!

  • Volunteers Needed

This event is currently chaired by Janell Seabrook but we are looking for a new family to take the reins. This is a one evening event with coordination and set up.

Box Tops

The Box Tops committee chair shall collect Box Tops for Education on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. The chair shall develop contests for Box Top winners. The chair shall coordinate with the president and executive board selection of appropriate items to be purchased with the labels and place the order for the items chosen. The chair shall submit Box Tops and request payment checks twice per school year.

Backpack for Hunger

  • Volunteers Needed - Food drive participants at our local QFC. Dates to be announced.

Helps mobilize the community, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for children that might otherwise go hungry. This program is unique to Keller. We collect enough food for the child and family for weekends and breaks. This is a discreet program with a lot of impact. This program is managed by Sequoya Lange.

Book Fair

  • Volunteers Needed

Book Fair Chairperson and committee members work to organize the dates for two Book Fairs (Fall and Spring). The actual Book Fair dates require many volunteers and the committee works with the Volunteer Coordinator to create SignUpGenius volunteer sign-ups. The most active time is during the actual Book Fair. This includes set up, scheduling volunteers and break down.

Picture Days

Creates and posts the sign-up sheets prior to picture days, and then provides assistance during picture days.

Staff Appreciation

Organize and plan a week of events in the spring to recognize school staff, including providing meals, gifts, parties, etc. Plans and hosts a variety of events during the year for all of the Helen Keller staff members. This program is currently chaired by Katie Onnink, Brittany Rossen and Misty Green.

Readerboard

Updates the reader board with PTA and school information. This is currently chaired by Tiffany and Scott Johnson.

Talent Show

Run student talent show sign-ups, rehearsal, and final performance in May. A fun showcase of the variety of student talent and a very
popular event. This event is chaired by Lila Williams and Katie Dujenski.

Field Day

Field day chair coordinates this fun event usually held the last week of school.

Health Screening

Volunteers Needed!

Assist the school nurse with Vision and Hearing Screening Day.

Emergency Prep

Maintains classroom emergency supplies that are found in the first-aid buckets
Maintains the inventory of emergency supplies/information in the container car located east of the upper field
Updates emergency nametags for each student at Maywood
Assists with school-wide emergency drills and potential real-life emergency situations
Participates in a phone-tree in the event of an emergency
